11/19/2023 0 Comments 223 subsonic with 5744I will post any relevant results tomorrow evening. Hornady 55Gr SPSX (soft point super explosive) 82Gr Berger bullets (I doubt they will stabilize),.I am setting a paper target up at 25 yards to check for keyholes. I will be shooting 1/2 of the rounds through the suppressor and 1/2 without. Each lot is 10 rounds for a total of 100 rounds. I got my Dillon 550B plate in and loaded 10 lots of different loads for testing tomorrow. I marked the cartridges with a colored permanent marker and labeled each row in the box with the powder charge in that color ink. I also went back and checked my test notes and, unless I marked the cartridges incorrectly when I packed them before going to test them, the data I wrote in my notes after each string still fits the load data in my first post. I can run clean loads through the AR all day long and not have problems. By clean I mean 250 to 350 rounds I have to at least squirt a little break free in the chamber and run a patch down the bore. It works ok but even with factory loads it has to be kept pretty clean to function well. I also noticed the chamber seems to be tighter than normal. There may be a little bit of blow by since the groves are leaving a little space between the bullet and the bottom of the groove although the bullet may expand into that space under high velocities. 223 barrel that was reamed out for the 5.7 x 28 cartridge. I went with posting the 5744 data because the chance of a double charge is lower since it would overflow the case and it is a slower burning powder.įound some unexpected results when I got the data you requested. I also tested some WSF and some Trail boss because I was going off Hodgdons 223 subsonic loads. 6 grains were also subsonic 4 of 10 times but I am going to continue testing with between 5.5 & 5.7 grains till I get the lowest possible SD. These rounds were movie quiet with an A.A.C.223 suppressor. Here in Phoenix the sound barrier is at 1125fps - 1150fps so if it were 1400fps I would have definitely heard the pop. Are you positive of your velocity measurements? Hmmm, I can't see that much difference between the two bullets velocity wise. But that was using a PRVI Partisan bullet. My 5 year old test data is showing me that with 5.4 grains of 5744 I had an average velocity of 1005 fps from my pistol extrapolating that data through my computer shows a theorhetical velocity of 1,400 fps from a 16" BBL. Medula Oblongata wrote:The reason people don't post too many is because of the chance of squibs primarily, and not low volume detonations. Grouping: Did not test grouping but there were no keyholes at 30 meters. I would also like to try a flat bottom soft point round in place of the FMJ I used.ĪR57 16" barrel standard spring and buffer I think I can improve on this with a magnum primer to see if I can get more even burning of the powder and, hopefully slightly faster velocities. 4.5 Gr leaves a barrel plug.ĥ.5 is the most consistent load with an average 1008Fps and a high of 1022 and a low of 988. I tested 5 different weights from 6.5Gr down to 4.5 Gr in a AR57 with 16" barrel. They will tell you that it was made for that very purpose. Before anyone starts anything about low charges and detonation or flash over you should call Accurate and ask them if 5744 is position sensitive or dangerous for reduced loads.
